Hemodynamics

  • The backwards flow of blood across the Aortic valve is the direct cause of the early diastolic murmur.
  • The increased compensatory bloodflow to uphold normal cardiac output will often cause a midsystolic murmur.
  • Due to the backflow from aorta, the opening of the mitral valve may be restricted during left atrial outflow, creating a mid to late systolic murmur known as the Austin Flint murmur.
  • Left ventricular pressure is remained normal.
  • Atrial diastolic pressure is lowered.
