Signs

  • Early diastolic murmur
  • Early and mid-diastolic murmur
  • Systolic and diastolic murmur (to-and-fro murmur)
  • Wide pulse pressure
  • Hyperdynamic Apex.

The arterial diastolic pressure is usually low, but may vary greatly from patient to patient. In acute AR diastolic pressure may well be normal, sometimes leading to the misjudgment that the patient is not acutely ill. Correct diagnosis and immediate treatment of AR can be lifesaving.
