Differential diagnosis
In patent ductus arteriosis and ruptured sinus of valsalva there diastolic murmurs as with AR. These conditions are also associated with wide pulse pressure and can easily be confused with AR.

Pulmonary regurgitation is less common that aortic regurgitation, but has a very similar murmur. PR is almost always associated with patients that have severe pulmonary hypertension.

Other lesions with diastolic murmurs are Tricuspid regurgitation, Mitral Stenosis and Atrial Septal Defect.
