With aortic regurgitation increased ventricular volume is a result of the regurgitant flow. The left ventricle must compensate with increase volume out into aorta to uphold necessary cardiac output. The increased flow over the aortic valve may create a stenotic murmur. This is a murmur much like with calcified aortic stenosis, but may have a bit more “fluid” or “flowing” character. This is often called a to-and-fro murmur.
